Check

Poker

To decline betting while remaining in the hand, passing the action to the next player. A check is only possible if no bet has been made in the current betting round. If another player bets, the checking player must then call, raise, or fold. Checking is a passive action used to see the next card without investing additional chips.

In practice

Checking around (all players check) means no bets are placed in that round. In some jurisdictions, “checking in the dark” (checking before seeing the next community card) is allowed.
