Surveillance and Security
The senior executive responsible for all surveillance operations within a casino property or enterprise. The Surveillance Director designs and manages the casino’s “Eye in the Sky” system of CCTV cameras, digital recording equipment, and analytics software; oversees surveillance personnel; establishes monitoring protocols for gaming and non-gaming areas; coordinates with security, gaming operations, and compliance on investigations; serves as the primary liaison with gaming regulators on surveillance matters; and ensures all surveillance systems meet regulatory technical standards. The Surveillance Director reports to the General Manager or COO and holds a key gaming license.
In practice
The Surveillance Director position is universally recognized as one of the most critical roles in casino operations. In most jurisdictions, the Surveillance Director must be approved by gaming regulators and cannot be removed without regulatory notification. The position requires extensive knowledge of cheating methods, internal controls, and gaming regulations.
