Natural

Baccarat

A hand that totals 8 or 9 on the first two cards dealt. A natural 8 (called “La Petite”) or natural 9 (called “La Grande”) is an automatic standing hand — no third card is ever drawn to a natural. If either hand has a natural, both hands stand and the coup is resolved immediately. Naturals are the strongest outcomes in baccarat.

In practice

A natural 9 beats a natural 8. If both hands have naturals of equal value, the result is a tie. Some side bets specifically pay enhanced odds for natural winners.
