Rebate on Loss / Loss Discount

Junket Operations

A player incentive in which the casino or junket operator returns a percentage of the player’s documented net losses over a defined period (typically a trip or monthly cycle). Unlike rolling chip rebates (based on turnover), loss rebates are contingent on the player losing and return a portion of actual losses—commonly 10–20% depending on the player’s value and negotiated terms. Loss rebates are mathematically complex because their cost depends on the player’s win/loss distribution and must be carefully modeled to ensure the net effect does not exceed the casino’s theoretical win. They are most common in North American VIP programs and were historically used in some Macau junket arrangements.

In practice

Loss rebates require careful actuarial analysis. An improperly structured loss rebate can have effective cost well above the nominal percentage because it applies only to losing trips, creating asymmetric risk.
