Tie Bet

One of three primary wagers in baccarat, placed on the player and banker hands tying (having equal totals). The tie bet typically pays 8:1 (sometimes 9:1) and carries a significantly higher house edge of approximately 14.36% (at 8:1) or 4.84% (at 9:1). It is considered a poor value bet but remains popular due to its high payout.

In Macau, the tie bet is called “Egalite” (French for equality). Some casinos offer “Egalities” side bets on specific tied totals (e.g., tie on 0, tie on 1) with enhanced payouts. Surveillance should monitor for players who bet ties disproportionately, which may indicate card sequence knowledge.
