Gaming Credit / Marker

LegalVERIFIED

A written instrument (typically a counter check or promissory note) evidencing a debt owed by a patron to a casino for gambling purposes. In Nevada and many other US jurisdictions, markers are negotiable instruments treated similarly to checks and can be deposited by the casino if the patron fails to pay. Under Macau’s gaming credit framework (Law no. 5/2004), casino credit operations are permitted and are not considered gaming usury (extortionate money-lending) when conducted by authorized concessionaires, sub-concessionaires, and licensed gaming promoters. Casino credit must be subject to appropriate due diligence and AML controls.

In practice

Singapore generally prohibits credit extension to Singapore residents, with limited exceptions for premium players meeting specific criteria.
