A newly licensed dealer with limited or no professional dealing experience, typically assigned to lower-limit games or less busy shifts while building proficiency and confidence. Break-in dealers receive intensive supervision and mentoring from Floor Supervisors and Training Dealers. The term reflects the industry reality that the first dealing job is the hardest to obtain, as properties prefer experienced dealers.

In practice

Break-in dealers often start on slower games like blackjack before progressing to more complex games like craps. In some jurisdictions, they must complete a probationary period before receiving full dealing privileges.
