Dealers

The frontline gaming employee responsible for conducting table games in accordance with established rules, procedures, and internal controls. The dealer manages all aspects of game play: shuffling and dealing cards, spinning the roulette wheel, handling dice in craps, accepting and paying bets, calculating payouts, and maintaining game security and integrity. Dealers are the primary interface between the casino and players, responsible for creating an entertaining atmosphere while vigilantly protecting casino assets. The term “croupier” is used predominantly in European, Australian, and Asian markets, while “dealer” is standard in North America.

In practice

In Macau, dealers are called “croupiers” or “gaming attendants.” Singapore and Australia also use “croupier.” All dealers must obtain a gaming license or casino special employee license. In Macau, dealers typically go through extensive training programs at the Macao Gaming and Entertainment Staff General Association.
