Relief Dealer / Break Dealer

Dealers

A dealer whose primary function is to temporarily replace other dealers at their tables so they can take their scheduled breaks. The Relief Dealer (also called “Break Dealer”) typically rotates through a “string” of three or more tables, dealing for approximately 20 minutes at each before the seated dealer goes on break. After covering all tables in their string, the Relief Dealer takes their own break. This system ensures continuous game operation while providing all dealers with required rest periods.

In practice

Relief dealers must be proficient in multiple games since they may cover blackjack, craps, roulette, and other tables in a single rotation. Experienced relief dealers are often on a faster track to promotion to Floor Supervisor.
