Pit Manager / Pit Boss

Pit and Floor Management

The supervisor who directs all operations within a designated casino pit – a physically grouped cluster of table games. The Pit Manager (historically called “Pit Boss”) oversees floor supervisors, dealers, and players within their pit, monitors game integrity, authorizes credit markers, dispenses comps, resolves disputes, and ensures compliance with house rules and gaming regulations. The Pit Manager is the primary on-floor authority for their assigned pit and reports to the Shift Manager. Modern casinos increasingly use “Pit Manager” over “Pit Boss” to reflect the professional nature of the role.

In practice

A typical pit contains 6-12 tables with one Pit Manager and one or more Floor Supervisors. The term “Pit Boss” is considered somewhat dated in modern casino management. In Macau, this role may be called “Gaming Inspector” or “Floor Manager” in VIP rooms.
