Part IV: Financial Fraud · Chip, Cash & Ticket Fraud
Fraudulent Credit Application
How it works
A patron submits false information on a casino credit application, whether fabricated employment, inflated income, fake bank account information or stolen identity, to obtain a line of credit they would not otherwise qualify for. The patron then gambles with the credit and either defaults intentionally or legitimately loses but has no means to repay. This is particularly damaging because casinos extend credit based on the application representations, and recovering funds from fraudulently obtained credit is extremely difficult.

On the record
FinCEN reports indicate that fraudulent credit applications are a persistent issue, often linked to broader identity theft operations. Some casinos have faced significant losses from organized groups submitting fraudulent applications across multiple properties.
