Placement
AML/CFTREPORTED
The first stage of the money laundering process, involving the introduction of illicit funds into the legitimate financial system. In a casino context, placement occurs when criminal proceeds are used to purchase chips, deposit into front money accounts, buy gaming vouchers, or otherwise convert cash into casino instruments. Placement is generally considered the riskiest stage for money launderers because cash transactions above $10,000 trigger CTR requirements, and suspicious patterns may be detected by trained casino staff and surveillance systems.
